The SIMLESA program is funded by the Australian Center for International Agricultural Research (ACIAR), and led by CIMMYT. The program is implemented by seven national agricultural research institutes including Ethiopian institute of agricultural research (EIAR), the Kenya Agricultural and Livestock research institute (KALRO), the Department of Agricultural Research Services in Malawi (DARS), the Mozambique Institute if Agricultural Research (IIAM), the Tanzania Agricultural Research Institute (TARI), the Rwanda Agricultural Board (RAB) and the National Agricultural research organization (NARO) of Uganda. Among international collaborators are the International Livestock research institute (ILRI), the international center for tropical agriculture (CIAT) and the University of Queensland through the Queensland Alliance for Agriculture and Food Innovation (QAAFI).
